R.I.P Jim Walton - 2010

It is with great sadness that the Club has to report the sudden death of our President, Jim Walton, who passed away recently in his sleep.

Jim had a lifelong association with the Club.  He was Captain for eighteen years from 1964 to 1981, Chairman from 1992 to 2001 and Club President from 2002 until the time of his death.

In the days before league cricket, Jim’s captaincy of the Club embodied competitiveness with the spirit of friendly village cricket.  He was a true character who will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by his friends, team mates and opponents alike.

Our thoughts are with Diane, Tony & Ben, both past playing members of the Club, and Mandy at this sad time.

R.I.P Derek Coley - 2010

Geoff White has provided the website with a brief history of Derek Coley, who sadly passed away this month:

Derek played for the club from 1977 to 1992 when having achieved his ambition to play in the team with his son, he chose to retire from playing.

He was a careful, though stylish batsman who batted about number 4 or 5 in his early days. His top score was in the forties, and in the VPs game of 1980 scored 34.

He was vice Captain in 1981. He became treasurer in 1993 until 2000.

He was elected as a Vice President in 1997 and Umpired on some games, for example for the VPs match.

He always had an interest in the club and supported his wife during the catering, and he, smartly dressed in his blazer, will be much missed around the Pavilion.

Aspley Guise Cricket Club sends our condolences to Derek's family during this sad time.
